Despite economic improvement in the Asian region and more particularly in Vietnam,several studies have shown that anemia and vitamin A deficiencies in Vietnam are still a public health problem. To reduce micronutrient deficiencies, since 2005, the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) has supported the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) in the National Fortification Strategy to encourage production of fortified food as well as raise awareness amongst consumers on the influence of vitamin and micronutrient deficiencies. As soy sauce, fish sauce, vegetable oil and flavoring powders are considered to be consumed daily in significant amount, they were chosen as potential fortification methods.
The objective of this assignment is to research all biggest producers of soy sauce, fish sauce, vegetable oil and flavoring powders in Vietnam on their current and future production of food fortification with micronutrient. This study is conducted to::
Participation of this research includes 10 committed producers from the four focusued industries and another five biggest producers from each of the four commodities (soy sauce, fish sauce, vegetable oil and flavoring powders) that have not participated in our project.
